C. Hunter Baker

Hunter Baker focuses his practice on patent prosecution and strategic counseling in the areas of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemistry, materials, and medical devices.

Hunter completed his medical training at Harvard Medical School where he was an M.D.-Ph.D. student in the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. His graduate work in Professor EJ Corey’s laboratory at Harvard University focused on the enzymatic mechanism of lanosterol synthase, an important enzyme in the biosynthesis of cholesterol and other steroids.

Representative Matters
  • Drafted and prosecuted of patent applications for several prominent universities in areas of chemistry, drug delivery, screening technology and biotechnology.
  • Assisted in managing patent portfolio of leading U.S. cancer center for new therapeutics currently undergoing clinical trials for use in treating cancer as well as neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Managed patent portfolio for new technology useful in developing new clinical candidates.
  • Provided strategic advice to startups and medium-sized companies in developing patent portfolios for protecting lead drug candidates.
  • Developed and managed multiple patent portfolios for a major university that formed the basis of several startups.
  • Managed patent portfolio for a publicly traded company developing, manufacturing, and marketing osteoimplants.
Previous Experience

Hunter was previously a partner at Choate Hall & Stewart in Boston and focused his practice on drafting and prosecuting patent applications, patentability searches, freedom to operate studies, opinion letters, and licensing.
