Douglas R. Wolf
Doug Wolf practices primarily in the areas of trademark prosecution and litigation, patent portfolio management, infringement and patentability analysis, licensing, and internet issues. Doug also provides due diligence and acquisition analysis to venture groups on target companies and technologies.
Doug represents clients in industries ranging from consumer goods to computer hardware and software to industrial manufacturing. He works with large and small trademark clients, including several portfolios comprising hundreds, sometimes thousands, of trademark registrations throughout the world. He has managed litigation in foreign jurisdictions including infringement, counterfeiting, and domain name disputes.
Doug’s interest in entrepreneurship and small business matters has led him to become actively involved in the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge, an educational resource for entrepreneurs and start-up companies. Through his work at the Forum, he has introduced clients to other companies in building strategic relationships.
- Negotiated purchase of blocking portfolio of registrations from pharmaceutical competitor for well-below market value.
- Negotiated license for trademark use on-line in Second Life.
- Worked with U.S. Customs to create program for seizures of counterfeit electronic components.
- Secured transfer of numerous internet domain names through arbitration (UDRP) proceedings.
- Obtained nationwide seizure orders for counterfeit products sold during concerts.

Doug has been named for several years as one of the top lawyers in the nation for U.S. trademark filings by NameProtect’s Trademark Insider magazine and was named to the Boston Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 list, an award program recognizing 40 of Boston’s brightest business and civic personalities. He has also repeatedly been named in Boston Magazine as one of Massachusetts’ “Super Lawyers” in the field of intellectual property law.
Doug has spoken extensively throughout the country on issues relating to trademark, domain names, and design patents. He has presented to both legal and industry groups. In one week, Doug was interviewed on a television show about top issues for young technology companies, presented at a forum on intellectual property issues, and was on-line in Second Life on trademark and copyright infringement.
