  • Obtained a favorable settlement for small start-up software company against a much larger company from charges of patent infringement, copyright infringement, and misappropriation of trade secrets.
Previous Experience

Before attending law school, Jeff worked for several years as a senior speech scientist where he developed acoustic models for speech recognition systems. Jeff also held postdoctoral positions at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Lyon, France and at Boston University where he performed research in the areas of signal and image processing, including time-frequency analysis, wavelets, and detection and estimation theory.

While in law school, Jeff worked as an immigration law research assistant, spent a semester as an intern with a federal public defender’s office, and participated in a capital trial clinic where he assisted in the defense of a capital case in federal court.

After graduating from law school, Jeff served as a law clerk for the Honorable Juan Torruella of the U.S. First Circuit Court of Appeals in Puerto Rico.

Jeff is the founder and primary developer of the open-source software project called OpenSTV which implements alternative voting systems such as the instant runoff voting used in San Francisco, CA and the single transferable vote used in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Cambridge, MA.
