John L. Strand
John Strand focuses his practice on the enforcement and defense of intellectual property rights in patents, trademarks, and domain names. He has assisted clients in a number of industries including airport and border security and detection services, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, internet-based sales, yacht brokerage, and snowboard design.
- Lead associate in month long trial which resulted in nine-figure jury verdict for medical device company.
- Obtained eight-figure jury verdict after two week long trial for laser medical device company.
- Succeeded in transfer of numerous domain names under Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy, with arbitrations having multiple complainants, respondents, and domain names, and including one arbitration with over 40 domain names.
- Obtained summary judgment of patent validity for plaintiff, despite challenge involving several references not originally before USPTO.
- Participated in several mediations, obtaining settlements favorable to clients.
- Taken and defended fact and expert depositions involving several different technologies.
While in law school, John served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Mel Greenberg of the Massachusetts Appeals Court.
John has been named one of the Massachusetts Super Lawyers' "Rising Stars" in the field of intellectual property litigation.
John teaches trademark law as an adjunct professor at Northeastern University School of Law.
