Kuangshin Tai
Kuangshin Tai assists the firm with patent prosecution in the areas of mechanical arts, clean energy and materials science.
- Supplied technical expertise to venture capitalists as part of due diligence on prospective investments.
- Conducted product clearance analysis and assisted in preparing freedom to operate opinions for major consumer products companies.
- Developed strategy for designing products around competitor patent holdings.
- Worked closely with inventors and in-house counsel to review invention disclosures in light of the prior art for seeking the broadest possible patent protection.
- Prepared and prosecuted patent applications for clients in the microfluidic, battery, and photovoltaic, software, semiconductor processing, acoustic processing, filtration, electromechanical device and medical device industries.
As a doctoral candidate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Kuangshin conducted nanomechanical research in bone to produce novel theories for bio-mineralized systems on nanoscale heterogeneity, energy dissipation, and cohesive-frictional behavior.
He has served as a research intern for the Materials Processing Center at the Center for Materials Science and Engineering, working on the development of polymer gel sensors and actuators that harnessed optical phase and swelling transition properties in variants of N-isopropylacrylamide.
As a research student, Kuangshin had a broad exposure to engineering and the medical sciences, from developing a DNA vaccine for testing in animal models, to creating a photo-optical device with cross-correlating signals used for measuring speed from photosensors fixed onto a ski.
Kuangshin has authored numerous scientific publications appearing in journals such as Nature Materials, Nano Letters, Journal of Biomechanics, and Tissue Engineering.
