Melissa A. Beede

Melissa Beede has over 10 years of experience in patent prosecution and counseling in the areas of electronics, software, medical devices and consumer products.  She counsels clients with complex and developing portfolios on IP protection strategies, and has particular expertise in product clearance assessments and design patent protection.  Her clients have included startups, venture capital firms, Fortune 500 companies, universities and hospitals.

• Developed and managed patent portfolio of company that provides RFID-enabled monitoring and data analysis systems, resulting in acquisition of the company and its IP assets by a field leader.
• Working closely with product development company, prepared and prosecuted patent applications related to medical and consumer products, and assisted with licensing the IP to Fortune 500 company.
• Evaluated numerous patents asserted against client by major patent holder, and participated in license negotiations for the asserted patents that lead to a substantial reduction in the royalties requested.
• On behalf of venture capital firm, evaluated the IP of early stage semiconductor start-up, performed product clearance analyses, and recommended a comprehensive IP strategy.
• Over the course of several years, advised major consumer products company on issues of infringement, including strategies for avoiding infringement, in connection with over 50 products.
