Michael J. Pomianek
Mike Pomianek focuses his practice on patent prosecution, opinion work, due diligence, and IP counseling. He works with clients in the areas of chemical processes, chemistry, alternative energy and other cleantech technologies, carbon dioxide mitigation and other environmental technologies, biomedical engineering, medical devices, analytical devices, food products, textiles, and nanotechnology.
- Developed strategic patent portfolio for carbon dioxide mitigation/biofuels company and provided strategic IP counseling leading company from business plan competition start-up to $92M contract for commercial installation of system.
- Provided offensive due diligence for major medical device company evaluating intellectual property position and freedom to operate of targets for acquisition and in-licensing.
- Acted as patent law expert and provided expert report for multinational textile manufacturing company involved in litigation with key competitor, which resulted in a consent judgment dismissing all of competitor’s claims, with prejudice.
Prior to joining the firm, Mike held industrial chemical engineering positions with Rohm & Haas, Dow Chemical, and General Electric.
Mike’s doctoral research involved the design, construction, and testing of an immunoaffinity membrane-based device for selective blood cell separation via cell immobilization and release from the membrane. In addition, a portion of his thesis involved determining the effect of fluid mechanical shear stress in blood on cytokine production by white blood cells. His work was conducted in collaboration with Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA.

Mike received the Daniel J. Fern Award for graduating first in his class at Suffolk University Law School. Mike has also been named one of the Massachusetts Super Lawyers’ “Rising Stars” in the field of intellectual property law.
Mike served as a judge for the 2010 FIRST Robotics Boston Regional competition.
