Michael T. Siekman
Michael Siekman counsels clients of all sizes in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries on a range of intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution and portfolio strategy, interferences, due diligence, licensing, invalidity and noninfringement opinions, enforcement options, and litigation.
Michael’s patent prosecution experience has involved blockbuster drugs as well as orphan drugs. He has also managed patent portfolios for several pioneering biotechnologies, including one of the most widely licensed biotechnology patent portfolios.
Having represented big pharma and biotech companies, as well as startups, Michael understands the business needs of the small companies to get to FDA approval as soon as possible and the business needs of the large companies to expand indications for a drug and manage its life cycle. This experience allows him to be effective on either side of the table in partnering a drug.
Michael has extensive experience extending patent terms in the U.S. and abroad. He has obtained Patent Term Extensions and Supplementary Protection Certificates, and he has maximized Patent Term Adjustment for clients. He has also advised clients regarding Orange Book listing strategies and has participated in several Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) patent litigations.
