Patricia Granahan

Pat Granahan provides counsel, particularly in the areas of biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals, to many non-profit academic, medical and research institutions, start-up companies, and multinational businesses.

In her more than 20 years in practice, Pat has written and prosecuted patent applications and provided advice for protecting pioneering inventions in many areas of technology, such as gene therapy, signal transduction, gene activation, oncology, and transgenics. She has extensive experience in obtaining and defending patent rights in the United States, as well as in other countries; providing legal opinions as to patentability and inventorship, patent validity, infringement, and freedom to operate; and drafting and providing advice relating to licensing, technology transfer, and confidentiality agreements.

Previous Experience

Pat previously served as Patent Counsel at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research and has worked in product development and evaluation as a member of the Life Sciences Division at Arthur D. Little, Inc. She also headed a University of Massachusetts nutrition education program for children in low-income families, worked on analysis of hematology and dietary data from a large federal study, and taught nutrition in a Boston college. Prior to joining the firm, Pat was a partner at Ropes & Gray in Boston.

Pat has repeatedly been named by Boston Magazine as one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Massachusetts and a Massachusetts’ “Super Lawyer” in intellectual property law.
