Robin A. Weatherhead

Robin Weatherhead assists the firm in patent prosecution in the areas of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and polymer and materials chemistry.

Representative Matters
  • Assisted in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications covering small molecule pharmaceuticals, polymeric materials, metal catalysts, polymorphs, and synthetic processes  
  • Worked on Freedom to Operate and patentability analyses for clients in the chemical, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries
  • Interacted with research scientists and in-house counsel in reviewing invention disclosures, determining inventorship and developing strategies for future patent filings
  • Assisted in managing a patent portfolio of a small pharmaceutical company for new therapeutics currently undergoing clinical trials for use in cancer, pain and inflammation
Previous Experience

Robin obtained her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Arizona under the direction of Professor Eugene Mash. Her research, focused in the field of crystal engineering, involved the synthesis of appropriately designed organic molecular scaffolds, and the analysis and prediction of the prevailing supramolecular interactions in the solid state. Throughout her graduate career, Robin gained valuable knowledge and expertise in the areas of synthetic and physical organic chemistry, materials chemistry, x-ray crystallography, liquid crystals, and polymorphism. 

Following completion of her graduate studies, Robin joined the laboratory of Professor E. J. Corey at Harvard University. Her post-doctoral research was primarily focused on the chemistry of Rh(II)–catalyzed asymmetric cycloadditions and asymmetric CH insertions.  In addition to her laboratory research, Robin also served as the Corey group X-ray crystallographer.

Robin has previously worked as a Patent Agent at Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in Cambridge, MA and at Choate Hall & Stewart, LLP in Boston, MA.

Honors and Awards

Robin was the recipient of the GenCorp Research Fellowship and a University of Arizona Graduate College Fellowship. As an undergraduate, she was a member of the George Henry Miles Honors Society, Dean’s List, and recipient of the POLYED Award for Achievement in Organic Chemistry.

Also Noteworthy

As an undergraduate, Robin ran track and cross-country for Mt. St. Mary’s University Division I program. Robin continues to enjoy running.
