Thomas A. FranklinTommy Franklin provides a wide range of IP services including patent portfolio development and management, due diligence, patent validity and infringement opinions, and technical consultation on litigation matters. His broad technical background in the areas of physics, electrical engineering, and physical oceanography facilitates his counseling of clients in a wide range of technical fields, including medical imaging, circuit design and signal processing for audio devices and imaging devices, electromagnetic sensors, optics, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) circuit design and fabrication, semiconductors, and fluid-based technologies. Tommy represents both large and small companies, start-ups, and many of the top universities in the Boston area. His range of experience with various types of clients enables him to understand each client’s needs and provide them with an appropriate IP strategy. Representative Matters
Previous Experience
During graduate school, Tommy served as a Research Assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Laboratory for Electromagnetic and Electronic Systems, where he designed and conducted investigations of magnetic-colloid flow in rotating and oscillating magnetic fields, with a focus on applications to nano-scale devices. During college, Tommy completed a physical oceanography internship where he collected and analyzed temperature and salinity data in the Long Island Sound. He also assisted with the collection of data for mapping ocean currents in near-shore areas. Honors and Awards
