Won S. Yoon

Won Yoon assists the Electrical & Computer Technologies Group in patent prosecution in the areas of software, networks, communications, electronics, and signal processing.

Previous Experience

Won's research and professional experience spans a wide range of fields, including software engineering, data networks and protocols, wireless and optical communications, and semiconductor devices. Prior to joining the firm, Won was a senior software engineer at MobiLaps, LLC, where he developed an end-to-end prototype of an internet content-management system and was a co-inventor on a patent.

During his graduate studies at the M.I.T. Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems, Won researched and published papers on streaming convolutional codes for transmission of real-time data and also studied the statistics of data traffic in large-scale communication networks.  During his graduate studies, Won also held research internships at Alcatel-Lucent Bell Laboratories, where he developed power control algorithms for wireless communications, and also at M.I.T. Lincoln Laboratories, where he analyzed resource allocation in optical networks.

Prior to his graduate studies at M.I.T., Won was a summer research assistant at I.B.M. T.J. Watson Laboratories, where he analyzed pair-induced quenching in Erbium-doped optical fiber amplifiers.  During his undergraduate years at Columbia, Won was a research assistant in the Center for Telecommunications Research, analyzing fault-localization algorithms in optical networks, a summer research assistant in the National Nanofabrication Facility at Cornell, where he analyzed electron penetration depths in electron-beam lithography, and a research assistant in Columbia's Microelectronics Sciences Laboratories, studying optical waveguide cross-couplers.

Also Noteworthy

Won is a co-inventor on two patents, and assisted in writing proposals for SBIR Phase 2 funding.

Won has a lifelong passion for writing, public speaking, and teaching. He was editor-in-chief of his high school newspaper, a member of his school debate teams, and has enjoyed being a tutor and teaching assistant during most of his undergraduate and graduate studies.

Won is also conversant in Korean.
