Summary

On August 21, 2007, the US Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) published a controversial set of rules which placed limitations on the number of continuation applications and requests for continued examination (RCEs) available to applicants, as well as on the number of claims examined in an application. The rules were slated to go into effect on November 1, 2007, and were thought to impact some pending applications.
