Perhaps the most important provision of the recently enacted health care reform act for biopharmaceutical companies has nothing to do with expanding access to medical insurance. The Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act (Biosimilar Act) establishes a long-awaited pathway for biosimilar (also known as biogeneric, biocomparable or follow-on biologic) product approval and management of resulting patent infringement actions.
