Facebook: Trademarks, Fan Pages, and Community Pages

Although the Internet has certainly created enormous new opportunities for businesses over the past 20 years, it has also created a whole host of new challenges for trademark holders trying to protect their marks. Early challenges included a competitor’s misuse of trademarks in a Web page’s metadata and disputes over cybersquatting, where someone registers a trademarked term in which s/he has no rights as a Web site’s domain name (or typosquatted by registering a similar variation).
