Wolf Greenfield Names Van Amsterdam to Head Biotech Law Practice

BOSTON, Aug. 8, 2007 — Wolf, Greenfield & Sacks, P.C., intellectual property law specialists, has named John R. Van Amsterdam, Ph.D., of Natick, Mass., as chair of its biotechnology practice group, which serves the biotech industry from startups to multinational corporations to research organizations, universities and hospitals.

A shareholder of the firm, Van Amsterdam received his Ph.D. in toxicology from MIT, his law degree from Suffolk University Law School, his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology from Middlebury College and his master’s degree in applied biological sciences from MIT.

Van Amsterdam specializes in patent prosecution, patent interferences, counseling and intellectual property transactions in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and molecular biology. His areas of expertise include protection of therapeutics and diagnostics for cancer, neurodegenerative disorders and metabolic disorders, antibody technologies, new medical uses and formulations of known compounds, and nucleic acid sequencing and detection technologies.
