What Matters to Our Clients

Customized Delivery of Sophisticated Counseling

Our clients’ diverse profiles, situations, and industries require strategies that are realistic, business-based, and actionable. On a daily and personalized basis, we work with our clients to identify their present and future IP needs within the context of their specific business drivers. We take into consideration their plans for growth, geographic locations of key activities such as manufacturing and sales, industry trends, and competition — present and lurking.

We’re often commended for the extraordinary skill, care, and enthusiasm we bring to our clients’ IP issues. We treat each matter with the vigilance of a bet-the-company case. Counseling start-ups through Fortune 500 companies, we know first-hand the issues that companies face as they grow, and frequently provide advice on what VCs and investors look for when they evaluate intellectual property.

Our clients count on us both for shrewd big picture strategic advice on issues such as new product development and competitive targeting, as well as for the passionate attention to detail that is a critical success factor in patent law. We measure our success in terms of our clients’ achieving their business goals and spend time educating senior management on IP issues. Sound knowledge enables them to foresee and react quickly to opportunities and threats.

Deep Industry Knowledge and Breadth of Expertise

We are keen observers of the players, technologies, product offerings, and industry trends that make up the marketplaces of our clients. We are active in industry trade associations and regularly attend key conferences to continuously update our understanding of the competitive landscape.

We scrutinize the patent and trademark filings of our clients’ competitors looking for the earliest signs of potential blocking patents and other competitive obstacles. Our clients appreciate being able to make well-informed decisions about the risks of proceeding with a project, especially when we are able to advise them on viable engineering alternatives and other steps to minimize exposure.

Our services include: strategic counseling on IP portfolio development and management, product clearance, patent validity, patent and trademark drafting and prosecution, design patents and trade dress protection, intellectual property audits and due diligence, international filing strategies and execution, competitive intelligence and monitoring services, licensing and other IP agreements, and infringement enforcement and defense. When a client becomes involved in litigation, we work closely with our Litigation Group to design effective and persuasive trial strategies shaped to meet our client’s needs and budget.

International Experience

Life in a global economy means that our clients increasingly face intellectual property issues related to conducting business overseas. Whether manufacturing and selling products overseas, or acquiring raw materials and components from foreign countries, our U.S.-based clients depend on us to develop effective and realistic international IP strategies, including advising on when, where, and what to file.

We also represent clients in oppositions and litigation in foreign countries. Doing so, we work with a carefully selected group of foreign firms to provide our clients with on-the-ground legal expertise and resources.

In addition, foreign-based companies conducting business in the U.S. seek us out to handle protection of their intellectual assets. We are known as a go-to firm for U.S. freedom to operate analyses and for the efficient prosecution of foreign based patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
