Dave Gesner has more than 18 years’ experience helping clients obtain and enforce commercially valuable IP rights through utility and design patent prosecution, counseling, litigation support, diligence, licensing, opinions and post-grant proceedings.
A significant portion of Dave’s practice focuses on protecting software-implemented inventions and successfully navigating the challenging and ever-evolving legal landscape relating to the patent-eligibility of software and business methods. Dave has significant experience in this area with a wide variety of clients, and particular experience with obtaining patent protection on blockchain technologies (e.g., cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens (NFTs)), machine learning, “big data” analytics, and mobile applications.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Dave spent over 10 years as a consultant, developing software and managing teams that implemented large-scale computer systems. This wide-ranging experience enables Dave to provide counseling in a variety of computer-related technologies, and he has worked with clients to protect innovations relating to databases, networking, security, telecommunications, storage systems, cryptography, speech recognition, healthcare-related technology, wearable technology, 3D printing, audio processing, DRM and Internet-based technologies, including social media and location-based marketing, tracking and search. Dave also has significant experience protecting non-computer-related inventions, including consumer products, toys, green technologies and sporting goods.
Dave is an avid snowboarder and cyclist.
